THE ZANZIBAR BOOK
Sketchbook 2016
The apparent dark themes of the book I found in a Zanzibar stall, does not well reflect the adventurous time that it served me for. The travel, places and people which provided the template for the drawings were colourful, plentiful. I believe the book allowed for my good life, by providing me an outlet to deal with recent trauma and recovery alongside it. The paper was shit - a challenge for my pen at every fibrously inconsistent turn. constantly had to find paths around its fibrous inconsistencies. And after a good while in my care it also acquired an ooze of animal. It was as if it asked me to tame it. Restrictions are the mother of all innovation.
